We all know that media's voice is heard by the masses day in and day out. The strength the media has on public opinion is growning ever more with the technological advancements springing up around us. Do you ever stop and ask yourself if you're really hearing what's important. We live in a country that was founded on the freedom of speech, yet we hear about the many times that freedom of speech isn't the case. With freedom of speech, we have freedom of press, but once again, it seems as though that isn't always the case. I may be wrong, but I feel like it is staring us right in the face, and many problems with our country get overlooked for whatever reason, so people the media want to protect others so they don't get hurt by public opinion, while sacrificing others.

We live in a world that is built on the thought of having to show one can do something the best, people in the spotlight have to be the sexiest, technology has to be the fastest. There is no room for second best. This is all from the movies, television shows, ads, and other sources of media we see. My question is why do we focus so much on those traits, rather than improving what we have enough to where it does what it's supposed to do correctly, then spend more time on other problems that arise, rather than placing all attention into one certain aspect until it either reaches the pinnacle, or fails.

They people I think media are trying to protect are corporations and big name people in our country, while the people they sacrifice are the 99 percent of Americans who don't fit that mold. They direct our attention to meaningless topics that fulfill our material needs, while trying to deflect concerns that should be rising about subjects such as the failing economy, corporations corner cutting tactics, and many other problems on Capitol Hill. As they shift concerns about petty subjects, they're paid generously.
